“Avoid the Void”
Beauty and fashion industry is where the body is usually a subject to strict limitations, deformation, and objectification…Some of the side effects of “living the dream ” are eating disorders, depression and self-harm. At the beginning of the performance, the artist declares the body's emptiness as a source of fear and unpleasant emotions, difficult to bear. The void is like a well, asking to be filled, evoking panic and anxiety. The artist fills this void with water over and over, trying to drown out the inner voice. Gradually, the noise fades, and the artist finds herself in a space devoid of excessive emotions and worries, but the calm is temporary. This process of self-violence cannot last forever—as she quiets her fears, she finds herself at odds with societal standards of appearance and behavior.
